Omni Attributes

Glenda Lawing   -

God’s Omnipresence is both comforting and also frightening. God’s omnipresence is comforting because of Deuteronomy 31:6, The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.God’s omnipresence is frightening because of Proverbs 15:3, The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. None of us are saying, thinking or doing everything that is pleasing to the Lord at all times.

Recently, I was watching a movie on Lifetime over the weekend entitled “Abducted: The Mary Stuffer Story”. This woman was being held hostage and her capturer asked her, “Is there anything I can get you?” I said to the TV, “She wants you to get her some arsenic, antifreeze or some rat poison”. But do you know what she said? She said, “Can you get me a Bible?”. Wow! Why couldn’t that have been my first thought? It’s an example of a thought that is not pleasing to the Lord.

The God we serve is also Omnipotent, He is able to do absolutely everything; there is no power greater than His. “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” Isiah 40:26.

When I was younger, I didn’t make the wisest of choices. Psalm 25:7 says: “Do not remember my youthful sins and transgressions; but remember me in light of your gracious love, in light of your goodness, Lord.” Through anything and everything that I’ve gone through in this life I’ve always known that I serve a God whose power and love for me, and for you, has no limit and is unconditional. God is all-powerful and can change what He wants, when He wants. If God doesn’t change a situation, it’s not because He cannot, it’s because it’s not His time or it’s not His will to do so, we just don’t know He reasons.

The God we serve is also Omniscient; all knowing. “Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.” Psalm 139:4. Jesus knows when we are going to sit down or stand up before we do. Our entire lives are laid out before a single day has passed. The Lord knew who our parents would be; how we would be raised; the challenges we would face. He knows the reasons that we do and or act they way we do.

Whenever I get in one of those moods where my past tries to rear its ugly head, I remind myself that everything I’ve gone through and come through is for the Glory of the Lord. It has strengthened my faith; it has made me wiser. Genesis 50:20 lets me know that: “Evil intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

God is also Omnibenevolence. His goodness is unlimited. Psalm 145:9 says, “The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made.”

So, to this end I pray: “Abba Father, all of my Hope and all of my Faith are tied to your promises. You have been too good to me for me to not believe in you even though I don’t understand the why’s. I want to thank you for what you’re doing in me. I want to thank you for giving me the courage, desire and direction to write a Blog for the Church at Severn Run. I pray that it is a help to a multitude of people; to let them know of your goodness, your saving grace; your forgiving spirit and the love that you have for your children. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”
