God Is Still Here

Never in my life did I imagine or expect a global pandemic to happen, but here we are right in the middle of one. It’s been nerve-wracking watching the number of cases and deaths rise across the world and here in the US. It’s been terrifying every time my husband or I have had to leave the house and go out into the world. It’s been shocking as our state and national leaders create tighter restrictions to keep us safe. To me, this all feels overwhelming and almost too much to comprehend. There’s so much unknown in my mind, but the biggest by far is how long will this go on? I don’t fully know how to deal with this groundhogs day like world we’re all in right now.

I was listening to “Indescribable” by Chris Tomlin and he sings in it, “you placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name” which comes from Psalms 147:4. This song gave me the reminder God knows us, every single one of us. He knows our families, our struggles, and he knows exactly how this season is and would affect us. He is not taken by surprise, like we are, of this whole lockdown situation. God is not knocked off His horse and needing to regroup right now and He is with us. I don’t know about you, but I desperately needed this reminder. The reminder that someone else is in control, the reminder that I am not alone I have the Creator of the universe with me, and He knows what I’m going through in this time.

This season is hard and it’s one I was really unprepared for, but God was not and that is the most comforting thing in the world to me. There are so many reminders in the Bible that God is in control and that He is with me right now and I am reading those daily to store them in my mind. Some that have been most comforting to me are:

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalms 147:4

“He counts the stars and calls them all by name.”

Isaiah 41:10

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Joshua 1:9

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Let’s all work this week to take our thoughts captive and remember that we aren’t alone and this isn’t all on us. Most of all let’s remind ourselves, while this has definitely rocked my world God is standing as steady as ever.

Write these verses down, save them on your phone, or highlight them in your bible and read them everything the fear and the uncertainty start to take over your mind.
