Surrender All
I love music. The words can really resonate our feelings, can’t they? Many times, our perspective can be changed in a moment as we sing along.
This week two songs came to mind that prompted me to take my eyes from my circumstances and back to Jesus and His plan for me. “I Surrender All” and “I Give Myself Away” are two amazing songs whose words speak to me in mighty ways. If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to listen and meditate on the words of these songs. Are you ready?
I can’t tell you the number of times this week I have been singing the words. I want to surrender all as I give myself away to Jesus and his plans for me.
I had been having quite a great pity party this past six weeks. I was concentrating on all “my challenges” and not giving myself to Him. For He is the one who gives me the power to meet the challenges. I have been in a spiritual drought since January 1st.
Entering a season of spiritual drought can happen to us when we are facing difficulties and challenges. It is during these times, when we are spiritually parched, Jesus promises to restore us. He wants us to depend on Him to help us through. Have you ever found yourself in a spiritual drought? The problem I have when I am in a drought, is I tend to look through my own eyes instead of the lens of the Gospel. The Gospel is the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Jesus would like us to look through His lens.
What can happen when we look through the lens of the Gospel instead of through our own eyes? The Gospel always reminds me of the love of our Savior and the power of His Holy Spirit who lives in me. Viewing life’s events through the Gospel can change how we view the challenges. We can find joy and peace if we keep looking through the lens of the Gospel. This increases our abilities to act courageously when life’s challenges seem so difficult. After all, “Our Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
When we experience this drought, His promise is that He will help us through it and we will once again soar on the wings like eagles. I am so in awe of His patience with me. Isaiah 40:28-31 promises us that He will never grow tired or weary of us even when we are experiencing a drought. What an encouragement for us as we take our eyes off of our circumstances and back to Him. “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles and they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
If you are struggling with a spiritual drought, I hope you will join me in surrendering it all to Him. Reading His promises of renewal and encouragement in His word, will show us the way back to His loving arms of peace. As we hold on to His power to overcome in this season, we will soar on wings like eagles. We will run and not grow weary!!
