Our Inner Voice

Glenda Lawing   -

So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. ‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.’” (John 10:27)

The Decisions We Make

Have you ever made a decision about something but the voice in your head makes you doubt your decision as soon as it’s formed? You want to go through with it anyway, so you start to rationalize your decision by looking for anything that you can that’s positive in it. You want it so bad that you don’t pray, “Lord, if this is not

best for me, please let me know.” which He already has.

Your prayer may be, regarding your decision, a prayer of thanks, thanking Him for what He has done for you. The thought process is, if I thank the Lord for this, He will Bless my decision.

Ahhh No! I believe that if your decision is made outside of God’s will, that decision you made will become a struggle in your life; more burden than blessing.

The Holy Spirit

The inner voice that wants to guide us towards the Lord’s best plan for our lives is the Holy Spirit. We were born with that inner voice. The Lord said it in 1 John 4:4, He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.” If that inner voice didn’t get our attention, we can then search for scripture that pertains to our situation. Every thing that we make decisions about today is in the Bible. The Bible is Life’s Blueprint for how we should live.

Trying to Hear That Voice

Because our inner voice is not loud and boisterous, listening to it is not always easy. There is so much outer noise. Our past experiences and listening to other people’s advice fill us with dread, fear and doubt, which takes away from our God given inner voice. The Lord promises us in John 10:28, Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give you”.

We were not born with this voice; it is developed through our life’s experiences. Romans 8:7-8 says: For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Our Ally: The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, That Inner Voice

We read in John 14:26, But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” The Holy Spirit warns us, it’s up to us to pay attention to it. “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” (John 7:17)

We ALL have been given free will. We all know right from wrong. When we ignore that small inner voice . . . that is when all Hell breaks loose in our lives! It was not God’s best. We wanted what we wanted when we wanted it and the outcome is never good. I have been there and done that more times than I want to remember.

I Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, lead us by your truth and teach us, for You are the God who saves us. All day long we put our Hope and Faith in You. I pray that I be in tune with your Holy Spirit and that I may hear your voice always over my own. I pray that the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, power, knowledge and fear of the Lord surrounds us all. In Jesus name.  Amen.”
