21-Day Fast – Week 3
We are on our last week of our fast looking for vision and direction personally, and as a church community.
These last two weeks might have been hard for you, or they may have been the best two weeks of your life. You may be confident of the direction God wants for you, or you might still be wondering what you should do next.
Whether you’ve had a spiritual breakthrough or not, God is moving in your life and in the life of this church. He is going to do something big in 2016…something new and something wonderful.
This is what the Lord says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
who drew out the chariots and horses,
the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
(Isaiah 43:16-19)
You might be wondering how to best discern this new thing God wants to do. Here are some tips to help you figure out how God is calling you to his purpose in 2016.
In your prayer time this week spend some time asking God the following questions and then write down what transpires during your time with him.
This step is important. When you write something down it becomes clearer to you. Your written impression of your sessions with God will also be helpful when the enemy tries to make you think you made it all up; when you doubt your purpose or direction you can refer back to these times with God and be certain of his calling on your life.
Ask God:
- Why am I here?
- What experiences do I have that will help others?
- What am I most passionate about?
- What gifts or skills do I have that you want to use for the Kingdom?
Look at the last few years:
- What does God have you doing now?
- Does he want you to continue?
- Do you need to change your serving focus based on the above questions?
- How can you plug into the church using your past skills, experiences, and passion?
Look at the next three years:
- Where is God leading you?
- What are the three biggest barriers to you carrying out what God wants you to do? What can you do about them?
- Where are you feeling stuck?
- Where do you want change?
And finally:
- If Jesus was sitting across from you and said, “If time and money were not an issue, what would you do next?” what would you say?
If you are still having trouble discovering what you are supposed to be doing, ask someone to pray for you.
If you know what you are supposed to do next, ask someone to pray that you have the courage and strength to step out in faith.
By the end of your fast, you should have a better idea of what to do next.
