Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the pure in heart

Can we all ageree that there are some things that belong in our lives and some things that don't? The question is what is the standard we use for measuring what belongs and what doesn't? What is acceptable and what isn't? What is helpful and what is not? Who gets to decide? If you and I are truly lovers of God and we are followers of Jesus, then by virtue of that profession of faith, we say, "Jesus, you decide what belongs in my life and what doesn't, what adds value and what takes away. What hurts, what helps, what should be there and what should not."

Now, religion will allow you to know lots of religious knowledge and facts; but You'll still get to be the leader of your life. You'll still be the one to decide what's in, what's out, what belongs and what doesn't. When following Jesus Christ, He becomes life leader. Then God gets to decide what is toxic to your life and what is a benefit to your life, because real love costs; and your love will cost you lesser loves if it is real.

Jesus took our broken lives and filled them with His own life; that is ever increasigly newer and of a higher purpose than ourselves. Now, we don't have to live for us. We now live according to His purpose; and the standard of what belongs and what doesn't is no longer set by me and my needs and my feelings, now it's set by the Word of God Almighty and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Purity isn't prudishness or missing out on the good stuff; Purity is freedom from what poisons life! -Dr. Drew Shofner

Owning the evil inside of us!

Evil inside of us

The reason that we are not experiencing what the Word of God says, is because we are mis-aligned; we are not doing what the Word of God says.

When we are button pushing, controlling, fault finding, arrogant, critical or negative, we are being evil and we need to repent of that and work for peace. We ought to be the ones who de-escalate the situations and pass on the insults and not take the cheap and easy shot to dismiss someone's worth under God; that's of hell!

All those who are peace makers, will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness; it's work! The children of God are called to work for peace on a daily basis so that your life doesn't start the day disturbed. Fill your mind with the Word of God and the Spirit of God will be in control of your day. Search for ways you can bring peace to your relationships, work to maintain it and let peace rule within your hearts; you gotta choose it! You can chose to live disturbed by your painful past, or your difficult present, or by what might happen in the future, or you can live inspired by the Holy Spirit ruling your life. When your heart is at peace, words of peace come out of you.

May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace so that you may overflow with the power of the Holy Spirit, inspired with hope in every relationship. (Romans 15:13) Not quitting on your marraige, not quitting on your kids, not quitting on your parents; but in every situation bringing the peace of Jesus to real life. Make the committment to do the work in your home and work for peace in your families.

What does it mean to bring peace? You go find out! And my prayer for you is that one day you will hear God say "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Peace Matters! -Dr. Drew Shofner

We reap what we sow.

We reap what we sow

Galatians 6:7-8 says, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."

The reality is, that decisions in the spiritual realm start off very very hard; but in the end they end up very very easy, or for a better word, very very good! The decision on the cross for Jesus was not a decision that was easy on His flesh. He prayed three times, He sweat drops of blood. Hard, hard call, but he made the call and the scripture tells us that it resulted in everlasting joy for billions of people. Each one of us will make our choices in this world and then our choices will turn around and make us!

Here is what I am praying happens at The Church at Severn Run. I don't want us to be another modern church who's 'at home' in consumeristic America. I want us to be a church that listens deeply to the Word of God and lives a wide life of impact and grace. I want us to be a people who are being prepared for eternity.

I want you to make some hard choices to deny yourself some of the things that are easy; I want you to live lives that are extraordinary. I want you to live lives in which you're letting God take all that is broken and everything that doesn't belong in your life and trusting Him to remove that and then letting Him fill your life with all of His life; whch is forever awesome! - Dr. Drew Shofner

We're so disturbed, we don't even agree with ourselves!

We're so disturbed, we don't even agree with ourselves!

A big part of the insanity of this world is that we don't recognize the insanity. A big part of dysfunction in a family is normalizing disfunction, so that you pretend what is crazy isn't crazy. You pretend that what is unhealthy is ok. You pretend what is morally or ethically wrong isn't wrong. There is a whole other level of 'crazy' when you pretend crazy isn't crazy!

You and I are in a world where we breathe in the second hand smoke of hell so much it has become normal to us. Satan is stirring up dissension all the time to disturb us, and all this talk of peace and this talk of the fruit of the spirit, seems strange and other worldly. When we live without peace, then we don't bring peace to our relationships.

You and I were created to live in the presence of God, and God has brought the kingdom of heaven to create peace on earth. When you believe in Jesus, you're not believing religion, or a set of ideas, you're believing in a person. That person doesn't just come and stand beside you, that person comes to live inside of you with a new spirit, and now you're living the rest of your life from being disturbed and disturbing others, to being at peace. -Dr. Drew Shofner

Your Word is a lamp to my feet.

Your word is a lamp to my feet

John 1:1 says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word (God) became flesh (Jesus) and dwelt among us; to reveal Himself to us. The one who became, invites us to become. The Word is understandable, it is hope filled and life altering.

When you don't have the words to speak to the pain, or the loss, or rejection of life, then you turn toward the Word who began it all. The Word means that we are not alone in the universe; we are not alone in our pain. We have the Gospel (the good news); we have the most positive message the world has ever known.

What you need to know, is there has been a word spoken into your pain; you are not lost in it. Never be afraid to say I don't know the way forward, because we know who does know. -Dr. Drew Shofner
