A Prayer for Humility
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28. Because there is so much going on in the world I did not know what to write about; what would be a help to others when I find myself feeling heavyhearted more now than I should be as a believer In Christ?
I asked the Lord to help me to unburden me about world events because the world is not my burden to carry, it is the Lords. Let me explain.
Philippians: 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This is a verse that I say to myself quite often when I feel powerless over a situation that I cannot change because, “Who of us by worrying can add a single moment to our livesand since we cannot do this very little thing, why do we worry about the rest?” Luke 12:25-26.
I am well aware that all I have said above is easier said than done. What is your alternative? Constant prayer is needed more than ever before in the times we are living out. We can see Matthew 24:7 playing out right now, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” What can any of us do about these coming events but pray? Can we stop what the Bible says is going to happen? Or should our prayers be focused on how as children of God we respond to humanity while we are here? 1 Timothy 2:1 urges us to,“First of all, pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them.”
Evil walks the earth. Satan actively moves among humanity doing his job and his job is to disrupt God’s order. There is no stopping it. “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood enemies, but the rulers…against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12.
Read for yourself! Notice how anything done good is treated as bad and horrible things done are glorified? It is why Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” “For the God of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4
Eyes have been shut. Evil has us so divided (just as it has intended to do). If evil can make us think that another race or culture is the culprit it will take the attention off of those who are really benefitting from us being divided.
Pray with me: Heavenly Father, teach us to embrace our differences and celebrate the individual gifts each culture brings. You made us different for your own glory! Open eyes Lord so that your light shows truth to those who are lost in hate of what you have created and love. Help us to see what is really happening here . . . division and how evil powers are pushing it. Psalm 91:1, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” We need God’s rest so that we will not “fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,” Psalm 91:5 Amen.
