Therefore go and make disciples of all nations (The Great Commission)

Our purpose as a church is not to be comfortable. It's not to keep me employed or to make you happy. Our purpose as a church is to creatively reveal something that is world changing and epic-- it is the love of the Father! A love that is the answer to all of the brokenness in this badly broken...

You cannot see, without faith, all the possibilities of God!

you cannot see without faith

Just as your physical eye cannot see all the spectrums of light, you cannot see, without faith, all the possibilities of God! So why settle just for what you can see? Why not live for so much more?

The mystery is that there is more to life than what we can see. There are more spectrums to life than the visible eye can see. I still find that hard to believe, I know that it is true, but what it speaks to, is a reality behind what I can see and even what I feel! It really doesn't matter if I feel like ultraviolet light is real or not, it is!

In the same way, God is here today, though you may not be able to see Him, He is speaking to you in parables to show you a kingdom you cannot see that must become more real to you than a world you can see. For some of you, to personalize this, in your own life all you can see is that you're stuck. The feeling may be that my life will never be more than this. Well, that may be what you can see but it is not what God sees!

In Matthew 16:25, Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?"
So Jesus is saying 'if you want to save your life, you lose it. Because only by losing your life, for me, will you ever find your created purpose! Will you ever find what you're longing for...will you ever be who you were made to be...will you ever love like you are longing to love and be loved! Only in me will you find that and to find me you have to give up this!' (Paraphrased)

The truth is, we'd have to be blind not to see the worth of heaven over the world around us! The broken world. A 9-11 world. A world of so much injustice. A world of holocaust. A world of racism. A world of people using one another. A world of theft and lying. A world of using every advantage of power and beauty against other people to lift ourselves up!

Can we not see how radically cancerous our world apart from God is?
If you and I want to make our home in this world, we're free to do that. Jesus offers more, but against that more, there is a power working to keep you stuck in your world. To keep you broken down and to keep you less than. To keep you unhappy, to keep you rooted in your pain, to keep you in every way oppressed and in jail (spiritually speaking).
2 Corinthians 4:4 says, "The God of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God." There is a Kingdom that has come, but that Kingdom is opposed by a God of this age, Satan.

The kingdom of the world and the Kingdom of Heaven are two different economies and what has to be exchanged is the heart and the attachment.

And so, God wants to give you a Kingdom worth more than the world but there is a worth decision that has to be made. Some of you think that you are worthless, and the truth is there could be no greater lie! God says you're worth more than His own life and so He sacrifices Himself upon the cross, is buried, and on the third day rises again because love will not die!
You are of infinite worth to the Father! You don't have to live your life angry. You don't have to live your life lusting. You don't have to live your life using drugs or people. You don't have to live your life searching for recognition and respect at work because none of that will last forever!

And so "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field...(Matthew 13:44)" Not everyone is going to see it, and some who do see it will say, "That's not worth much and certainty not worth me giving up everything that I want and everything I've been living for up to this point. No thanks God, that really isn't my treasure, my treasure is elsewhere." And many will see the offer of this Kingdom as something that is just not real.
Some other people will hear this message of Jesus and part of them will say yes to it, but part of them will say "I want the world as well. I want the car but I don't want to give up anything of value to pay for it." And that doesn't work, but I just want to share with you this one simple thing above all else, and that is that the Kingdom only comes to those who let the world go! Why settle, in your life, for just what you can see when the God of parables is seeing so much more and trying to show you so much more? -Dr. Drew Shofner

You are the Light of the World.

Matthew 514

I don't know if you've ever felt the 'lost-ness' of hell in your life - I mean really felt it? Well the truth is, some of you are there right now and inside your heart of hearts, there is pain, there is regret, there is loneliness and there is anger. Sometimes there are wounds so deep, we wonder if we can ever be whole? If we can ever move forward? If there is going to be any real sunrise in our lives ahead? And to the answer - God gives Jesus!

Right before He ascended into Heaven, Jesus said something so radical and life changing, that He literally meant for it to impact the world and change every life on planet Earth. And to change those lives, Jesus said - I want to use you!
There have been so many times in my own life where I've said I'm not enough! I'm too small! I can't! Every time that I begin a sentence with I can't, I'm showing that I don't understand that the subject of everything is Jesus! He's the issue and when my life begins with Jesus, then God is free to use my life to help other people discover!

Jesus sent 'us' into the world so that men and women, boys and girls would know that there is hope! That they do not have to live 'now' in the lost-ness of hell. So Jesus raised up a group of people called the church, and He did not collect the church to be a few sanctified saints who were so cold and judgmental to the world that we would be rejected and unattractive! He called us to go and be salt and light  (Matthew 5:13-16), and when the world around you is very dark, just a little light makes all the difference!
So, in the midst of our brokenness, Jesus said go!

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Guys, what I want us to know is that I believe with all of my heart, and I'm committing my whole life to this truth, that we really can change our world - if we'll go living Jesus!
We are called to look to Jesus and have a broken heart for people who are hurting! To believe that Jesus has so looked after my interest that I am now free- free of myself, free not to live out of my own brokenness and my own issues - I am free to go now! Having gotten myself off of my hands, rather having Jesus lifted myself off my hands, I can now go out into a broken world and I can share the love of God in a way that really changes life!
There once was a church that so lived in the freshness of the resurrection! Jesus was so alive, so fresh and so real that they changed the world in Acts! We can be that church. In fact, if we are not that church, we are no church at all! -Dr. Drew Shofner

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations (The Great Commission)

Matthew 2819

Our purpose as a church is not to be comfortable. It's not to keep me employed or to make you happy. Our purpose as a church is to creatively reveal something that is world changing and epic-- it is the love of the Father! A love that is the answer to all of the brokenness in this badly broken world. It is a love that we do not need to leave to the imagination. It is a love that has been given a name, it is a love that had a face. It's a love that had hands and feet. It's a love that touched life and changed it!

And so, we creatively reveal the love of the Father, through the life of the Son, but we don't do that in our own power or our own abilities, it's all in the power of the Holy Spirit! So if we are saved, if we have entered into the life of Christ, then we are sent out by Christ into the world! Every Christ follower is one who is sent, that's our call!

Guys, I'm just telling you, we have so badly distorted discipleship in the modern church, it's not even funny. We've taken people into classrooms, sat them down, and filled their brain with theories and facts that somehow don't seem to be 'dropping' the 18 inches from the 'head to the heart.'

Jesus never led anybody into a classroom.

He led needy people out into a broken world that they might redeem it. Because in this world, everything is broken and everything needs to be redeemed!

We've made knowledge the currency of the Kingdom when faith is always the currency! We have made 'learning more' the quest when it's knowing Jesus and having a personal relationship with Him that is the quest. It's a person, not some body of knowledge or doctrines! It all has to do with faith and believing. Not a doctrine of knowledge, but a person! A being! To understand that we're embracing a heart more than we're embracing some orthodoxy! Guys, if we're saved, then we are sent out into the world to save in the authority of Jesus Christ!

What it means to be saved is to trade a terminal life for an eternal one. It means to acknowledge that in this world, we will never be finally happy, finally complete, that in this world we will never be finally appreciated or loved! There will always be tension, always be pain, always be a level of brokenness in our life, but in the midst of it all, there is a savior who's love will overcome and He will lead you to win the war of your heart and your soul so that you will "struggle" successfully and you will then be sent out "by love" into a broken world to lead others to trade their terminal lives for an eternal one as well!

So go and make disciples, and don't just do it with people that look like you, and live where you live. Go out of your way, bump into other people and as you do, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teach them to obey everything (Matthew 28:19).

Don't walk away from them if they are new in the faith.  You teach them and you do life with them until they get it. And when they do, then they can share it with somebody else. That's the call of Jesus Christ! -Dr. Drew Shofner

What do You Have? (The Road Ahead)

what do you have

What do you have? There's a whole lot of us here who say "I've got nothing." I just want to say you're so wrong! God has given you His heart, you have the greatness of the image of the creator inside of you! With purpose, He designed you! He created you and called you to give yourself and to pour yourself out into the world in a way that would reveal His power and greatness and that would reveal in your life; Nothing is impossible with God!

In all that you lack, that focus will take you into depression, into captivity and passivity and into nothingness! But when you shift your focus and you look at what you do have, then the answer is "God, I will give everything to you, the God who has given everything for me!" How dare you live a small life! How dare you look at everything God has given you and say this is not enough!

God is good, and He has loved you with an everlasting love! You are a unique expression of the creativity and the image of God on earth; how dare you live a small, shrinking back, self-hating life? Whatever I've got I'm giving it to God, I don't compare myself to other people! How dare you believe that God cannot overcome our obstacles! How dare you believe that God isn't enough for you and that we cannot change the world! - Dr. Drew Shofner
