Connected With Our Creator

Everyone has a desire to know God

The truth is, everybody has an innate desire to know God. Everybody was created in the image of God with a desire to know Him and to be reconnected with Him. In fact, in everybody that you meet, regardless of what they know, in their DNA (woven into their very being), was wired for their connection for God! Everyone that exists has this longing to be connected with the infinite glory of their creator!

It's the deepest, it's the highest, it's the truest longing in the soul and we substitute so many 'lesser things' that are our expression for desire with God. We will fool around making money. Seeking status, we will misspend lives in empty sexuality. We will try so many things to answer this soul-deep longing inside of us because hell doesn't want us to recognize what that longing really is for--it's for God!

Some of you don't think your greatest need or longing is for God, but I'm telling you that it is! Like a light that doesn't work because there is a broken wire between it and the switch, our lives are not working because there is a disconnect between us and God that is the deepest longing and desire of our lives. Everything is broken and waiting to be redeemed!

The beginning of our brokenness was this separation from God. Why is there so much separation from God in the world? Well, 2 Corinthians 4:4 gives us the answer, "The God of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." So while we doubt the reality of God, the issue according to scripture is not the reality of God, but it's the blindness that keeps us from seeing reality!

And still deep inside, beneath the brokenness, behind the longing, deep down buried beneath the pain, there is inside everyone of us this resonant desire to recognize God.

To acknowledge God and to connect with Him.

And when that happens it's a beautiful and amazing thing.

It is life as it was meant to be.

It is a taste of Heaven.

Just a glimpse of a soul connecting with the love of God.

And it happens in the most surprising ways, and in the most surprising moments of surrender...

Guys, God is always working to reveal His reality, that He exists, and He is always working to reveal His love! -Dr. Drew Shofner

Behold, I Am Making All Things New!

revelation 21-5

I love the heart of God to make things new. The scripture says in Revelation 21:1, "And then i saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first had passed away…" You and I live in an earth that God imagined and created out of His joy, but in our sin we rebelled and we chose independence and our own will over the will of the Father and in that moment, everything was shattered. The foundation was cracked; deafness reigned, blindness entered our life, everything was torn apart in the human world!

But God said I will not give up, I will not let it go! I will pay any cost to redeem it, to buy it back and make things right again! And that's what God's here to do for your life. You have been loved with a love that is bigger than your life. You have been loved with a love that is bigger than God's life, and it's enough to change everything!

"Behold, I make all things new, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, to him who is thirsty," that is to the person who is willing to acknowledge their need, who is willing to acknowledge the need of being dependent, to the person who will give up the fig leaf of self sufficiency, to that person, I'll give the water of life!" I'll make everything right again, and everything that you're longing for in your heart of hearts, the end to the loneliness and alienation; the love that you just can't seem to find; I'm making everything new again! -Revelation 21:5

God's love has changed everything; I pray today that you and I aren't blind to it. I pray that you and I will see the power of a love that cost everything to change everything; in big and small ways! I pray most of all, that as we grow to be a church of 5,000 disciples, that we are not a church of 5,000 religious people "saved to sit" but that we are out in a broken world as broken people making friends for Jesus. Showing grace, living generosity, touching lives that nobody even notices, and bringing the healing of Heaven into a broken world one broken life at a time!

You have no idea what a difference you can make on this planet if you will only get over yourself and answer the call of God! -Dr. Drew Shofner

What we dare to imagine determines our future!

what we dare to imagine

I want us to imagine the road ahead because the truth is we need to redeem our imaginations! The word redeem is a critical word that has to do with 'buying back.' To redeem something means to turn it around, to make it right. It means for God to touch it and to move it from dark to light, from broken to whole, from bad to good.
We were created in the image of God and a part of the power of our image is the imagination. It is the ability to see, in our minds, possibilities and to act on those possibilities. The simple truth is most of us here have allowed our imaginations to be run by the destructive agenda of hell more than the redeeming agenda of heaven. Our imaginations become the playground of all kinds of fearful, lightless, lustful, hopeless and failure-filled futures all because we do not have a mind filled with Christ!
In Isaiah 65:2, here is the heart of God saying "All day long I have held out my hand to an obstinate people who walk in ways not good, pursuing their imaginations." You and I pursue our imaginations all the time; it's how we live. But if we can redeem our imaginations and buy them back from hell, and see a future that is hopeful and touched by the hand of God; fear goes, peace comes, and the course of our actions are redirected!
1 Corinthians 2:16 says that when God redeems us, we have the mind of Christ. We get our minds back! Guys, I'm asking you in the name of Jesus to reclaim your imagination. It isn't the playground for pornography. It isn't the playground for fear to do its work. It isn't the playground for revenge or getting back at people. Our imagination is a part of our creation that ought to be redeemed. The imagination is the heart of our humanity, and we need to get it back. If we will reclaim our God given imaginations and allow God to use our imaginations seeing and building the Kingdom of God in our homes, in our communities, in our schools, in our church; everything changes!  -Dr. Drew Shofner
