Run Your Race!

There are two approaches to a spiritual life; passive or active. Most of us take a passive approach to our spiritual journey and we just kind of assume that it will happen. Can I just say how crazy that is! What “just happens” that is good in your life all on its own? How good does...

Are you with me?

are you with me 1

If we don't believe we can win, we won't even try, but if we believe we've already won, we'll live The Win boldly! Some of you today need to resolve the question of whether you're a loser or winner in Christ. I'm not talking about your feelings, I am talking about a decision you make in your heart of hearts, based on Jesus and to say that "I believe that Jesus Christ has handed me the win and that He is with me. Not because of who I am first, but because of who He is!"

You need to resolve whether you believe, in all of your pain, all of your trouble, all of your trial whether Jesus is with you. Most of us are not living our lives boldly in the world to change it for Jesus Christ-- we're playing another game. The church is the hope of the world and we have to decide what we believe as time moves forward!

You need to start living your life in a larger way!

You need to celebrate your giftedness and you need to unleash it on the world creatively!

You need to use your giftedness in the church, I'm not talking about this building, The Church is the living and breathing body of Christ! People whose lives have been changed by the gospel, the  good news of the grace of love!

I'm asking you church, in the name of Jesus, to resolve the question of whether or not you believe He is with you in a victorious, unstoppable, victorious kind of way!

"Are you with me Jesus?"

If you don't answer that question, you may be forfeiting the rest of your life, the dreams of God and of hundreds of other people who could have used your creativity, your gifting, your largeness, but you shrunk back and you lived small because you believed you weren't good enough for God to be with you!

I want you and I to dare to believe: what we believe and knowing that we've already won, we can live with a new kind of confidence and we can live differently from this point forward!

I'm praying that the church of the living God rises up and when they hear Jesus say, "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age," that there is a new confidence and spring in our step because we're not just walking through life as failures, we're walking successfully in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords, coming soon to all of us!

That's our destiny and that's our way of life! -Dr. Drew Shofner

Finish your race!

Finish your race

Pastor Chris gave us four nuggets to believe to help you finish your race:

1. Believe that whatever adversity comes your way, God has determined and prepared for you to be able to handle it!

2. Believe that you are not the only person in your situation, others have been there before and they've survived it!

3. Believe that with God's help and with the help of other Christ followers who are situated around you, you can defeat the enemy in the power of the Spirit!

3. Believe that the God who sent His son to die on the cross for your sins, is the same God who loves you right now through your struggle!

And when the naysayers come to remind you and call you out of your name, remember this - It's not what people call you, it's what you answer to!

Throw off all hindrances, God wants you to know that you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who are cheering you on, so stop listening to the wrong voices and finish your race!

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called!

God doesn't call the qualified

There is a race that God has marked out for you, and it is a run to glory! You have to choose to get off of the easy chair and out of the lazy boy; off the couch and run the race marked out for you! Your race isn’t somebody else’s race, your gifts aren’t somebody else’s gifts, your call isn’t somebody else’s call!

It is very personalized by an amazing God who ponders the thoughts of six billion people and calls each one of us into a life that is choice based, spirit driven and Christ revealing. We are called to grow as individuals, we are called to grow as a church. Our growth, His Glory! Do you get it? -Dr. Drew Shofner

Run Your Race!

Hebrews 12

There are two approaches to a spiritual life; passive or active. Most of us take a passive approach to our spiritual journey and we just kind of assume that it will happen. Can I just say how crazy that is! What “just happens” that is good in your life all on its own?

How good does your yard look with a passive approach? If you can’t grow a garden by pulling up a chair and watching dirt, then how in the world do you think you can have a life of spiritual growth by being passive and doing nothing; waiting for it to happen?

Do you know what you are going to get with dirt if you just wait for stuff to happen? WEEDS! Do you know what you’re going to get in your own spiritual life if you just wait for stuff to happen?

This is true in all areas of life; everything takes effort, action and intention. If we just did what we felt like doing, how many of you would go to work every day? I mean, it seems like all of life takes work doesn’t it? If it’s true that everything in life takes intentionality; from tying your shoes, to going to school, to being a faithful husband, or a God-honoring wife, then those things take choices that are deep from the heart; and it’s work!

The things that you are not proud of in life are the things that were easy and the things that you are the most proud of, in the best sense of the word, are the things that took effort and intentionality and were a courageous choice!

I want to challenge you today to choose to actively approach your spiritual life in such a way that you bring glory to God by actively living out of an obedience that is aggressive, faithful and responsible. The word responsible means able to respond! My prayer is that we would hear God speak to us in a way that will transform life forever.

God has spoken into us this truth that life is to be a day by day experience; a journey of growth. Your story is to be an upward story, not a downward spiral! Your story is not to be a story of increasing brokenness, addiction, or despair. Your story is not to be a story of decrease; it is to be a story of increase. We are running a race that ends in Glory! Do you realize that? Now you have to step back and think, “How will I run it?” –Dr. Drew Shofner
