Growth Through Adversity

Glenda Lawing   -

Adversity. What can I say about it? Websters dictionary describes it as difficulties and misfortune. But when it occurs in your life it feels more like a disaster or tornado. It feels like you have taken many steps backwards. It feels like you will never come back from it. Adversity makes you sit back and evaluate yourself. In the evaluation you can either put the blame on someone else or you can evaluate your part in it.

I have never gone through adversity and come out feeling anything but strengthened, wiser, and loved by the Lord. Oh, do not get me wrong, I was not feeling that way going through it. I used to wonder why the Lord would not just take care of the situation instead of me going through the stress of it. I would say out loud, “Come on Lord, are you serious!” He is serious and, in the end, The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10. His Will be done!

Adversity is to strengthen, not to destroy. Adversity is the Lord’s way of growing us up. Adversity is the Lord being just who He says He is; the Clay. Creator of the universe and everything in it.

Adversity can come into our lives in many different ways. Sometimes, it comes on by our own doing; by being disobedient. Sometimes it comes on by someone else’s doing. Adversity can come in when we become full of ourselves, full of that pride. Pride is of Satan. Satan loves for us to be so buffed up in our own selves, so full of pride in our own accomplishments; so egotistical and selfish with the mindset, “I do not ask anybody for anything. I work every day. I pay my bills, and I mind my own business. Look at me self-made,” forgetting the fact that the reason we are even up and moving at all is because of the Lords Mercy & Grace! He can shut it all down with a single thought.

  • Adversity will come upon each and every one of us in our lifetime.
  • Adversity will remind you of who is really in charge of your life.
  • Adversity will put you on your knees.
  • Adversity is the Lord’s way of growing us up.
  • Adversity is the Lord being just who He says He is.

No matter the cause of the adversity, the father will bring His child out. He may not take the trial away, some trials He walks us through! HALLEAUJAH & AMEN!

How we handle the adversity changes. I believe as our faith in Our father grows, so does the way we handle adversity. I would like to think that I am more mature in the Lord and have outgrown tantrums when adversity comes. I still despise it, but I realize that the Lord is doing something in my life. Something that seems like a setback but from past experience I realize is a set-up in preparation for His Kingdom!

The Lord loves us and He will do whatever He has to do to strengthen His own! “You dear children are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4.

Say this Prayer: Thank you Abba Father for feeding me strength and courage in the face of adversity. Thank you for loving me enough to guide and correct me. Thank you that your “divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3. Amen.
