At Home Service: Sunday, January 24

Worship Services at Severn Run are cancelled on Sunday, January 24, 2016 due to the snowfall!

We really don't like cancelling services! Let's face it: we look forward to Sunday each week, so it's a bummer to call it off, BUT have no fear, the internet is here! We wanted to put together a quick service that you and your family can have at home in the comfort of fuzzy socks.

Welcome to Severn Run from your home!

Settle in and see what's up this month:
You can catch The Rundown every week by showing up 5 minutes early!

Let's jump right into Worship!

Listen and/or sing with the first three songs on this playlist to get started.

Let's stop to pray.

As an individual or a family, take a couple of minutes to pray. Thank God for the qualities you appreciate about him and were reminded of during worship. Ask him to open your hearts to learn more about him. Ask him to protect those braving the roads to clear snow and for those who may not have a place to call home during this weather.

God is up to amazing things at Severn Run!

Last week we gave you the challenge to take a jar with $5 and multiply it. We have seen some amazing ideas come from this and this week we are featuring an idea from Chris Poldervaart called "Hope Story." Check out his video below about it or visit his website to learn more.

How are you growing your $5? Let us know in the comments section below!

Let's Learn Something Now!

Nothing Less Than God Will Satisfy

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

You can only understand freedom if you know what it means to be enslaved. Slavery, in its most basic form, is the state of being owned by someone or something. We can all agree that slavery is a dark mark on the history of our nation. But even in our modern times, we are each subject to being owned by something.

When something is more important to you than Jesus, it owns you. Every decision you make is driven by it. Every thought you have surrounds it. Each day you are compelled to get more of it. More money, more love, more food, more drink, more ______________ (enter the name of your favorite secret passion). What you had yesterday wasn’t enough, and each day your thoughts become more and more centered around how to feed the sin that owns you.

But Christ has set us free. When nothing is more important to you than Jesus you can be free. The burden of sin is lifted. The yoke of slavery is removed from your neck. The desire for your sin no longer directs your path. Your dark thoughts are invaded by light. Your want for more is filled with more of Jesus. More love. More peace. More joy. More compassion.

Jesus set us free for freedom. Freedom to not be ruled by our carnal desires. Freedom from the desire to fulfill the flesh.

In your own power you do not posses the ability to free yourself from the burden of your sins. You cannot save yourself from the thoughts or words or actions that you shouldn’t have, say, or do. You cannot lift the yoke from around your neck. You do not have the power or the strength.

But God does. Because nothing is impossible with God.

Look to Jesus and know that nothing is better than your relationship with him. Trust that the yoke burdening you can be lifted by God.

Stand firm! Don’t look at the ____________ (the name of your temptation) and think, “That ____________ is so great. I would really miss ____________.”

Because nothing is more important than your relationship with Jesus.

Everything changes when you become a servant of Jesus. Every desire, every passion, every pursuit is centered around and fulfilled by Jesus’ purpose for your life. Your words, your thoughts and your actions stop feeding your sin and start building the Kingdom.

True freedom in Christ is freedom from the pull of sin. When Jesus controls us, sin does not. Stand firm in your freedom. Do not allow the lure of sin to call you back into its grip.

Because nothing is impossible with God.

Time to respond in worship through song:

Now it's time to respond in worship through giving:

Let's pray together for our gifts.
"Lord, nothing is more important to me than my relationship with you! Thank you for the free gift of salvation that created the opportunity for me to be your well-loved son/daughter. Because of your sacrifice on the cross, we come before you to offer a small portion of what you have given us. Use my gift to help others who do not yet have a relationship with you come to know you as their Savior. Nothing is impossible for you, Jesus! This is why I choose to trust you with the important areas of my life. Thank you for loving me and caring for me. Amen!"

Now let's celebrate our way out with one more song!

Listen to or sing with the last song:
