Read Revelation

Glenda Lawing   -

First of all, the book of  Revelation can be terrifying and mysterious. I speak for myself when I say, I do not even want to think about a world where creatures are flying around unless it is in a theatre.

Revelation is a book about what will happen next. Let us face it, Revelation describes the complete destruction of our world. It speaks of conflict between good and evil. But for those who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, Revelation is a book about hope for the faithful in Christ.

Revelation 1:3 says, Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” I have read most of the Bible in my lifetime. When I get to Revelation, I start it and then I shut it out. My goal is to read it, and re-read it, just like I do other scripture verses in the Bible.

Why? Because, I have a personal relationship with the Lord, and that means not just reading the parts that I want to read. I feel like I have ignored situations far too many times in my life already. I do not want to deprive myself of the opportunity to get as much meaning from Revelation as I possibly can. This portion of my life is far too important! This is knowledge for preparation for our final chapter in this evil, sick, and depraved world. God knows best and if Almighty is providing insight of any kind, I want to be mature enough to seek it. I pray for discernment.

Why? Because the time is near. James 1:22 says, Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. The spirit of He who is in me that is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 gives me the desire to, study the events of Revelation, and not only let it affect the decisions that I make moving forward but to spread the news. But right now, I cannot share any news because I do not understand it myself.

Why? Because I have never tried reading it through, nor asking the Lord for the faith, discernment, perseverance, and direction while reading it so as not to feel fearful and confused. I do not expect for it to happen overnight. 1 John 2:27 says,The anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in Him.”For one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, for him it is sin.” James 4:17.

I am hoping that by reading and studying Revelation it will give me knowledge as well as peace in the midst of what is to come; while also drawing my heart closer to God. I have always believed the events that are now playing out would take place. My astonishment is, how fast it is happening.

I am a Baby boomer. I surely did not think that I would be living to see some things that are unfolding unfold. But here we are in the times for which the Lord has made you and I. He has even fortified us for it. I pray that we stay alert; reading, absorbing, worshiping, lifting up and praying for one another in Jesus’ name. Amen.
