Here am I, Lord send me!

Isaiah 6-8

In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Guys, the issue is not that we can't reach people, so many people in this area say the church can't grow...and people are too busy...and it's too secular...and...

All that's garbage!

Jesus said the harvest is plentiful! There are millions of broken people around us who are blind now but if only the Father's love was revealed to them, they would be ready and receptive!

The problem is not that they're not ready in their brokenness to have answers and joy, the problem is, there aren't enough inspired people willing to get out of their own plans and go! There aren't enough people willing to leave their earthbound agendas and invest their lives for eternity! That's the problem!

The harvest is plentiful -The truth is The Church at Severn Run can grow by 200 or by 5,000 and the churches in this region can grow by 100,000 more people because they're there: according to Jesus! They just don't have anybody who will walk with them and lead them!

What Jesus is trying to tell us is the church of the living God has to have a new attitude! A believing attitude and a faithful attitude that looks at our world around us and says we can make a difference! God is at work out there, He's already done all the work to plant and water, and all we have to do is to get out and connect with people and to bring in the harvest!

Guys, if we believe The Gospel, Jesus said that there are hurting, broken people around us!

All around us there are hundreds of thousands of human beings that are ready to hear about the love of God and to have His arms around them.

God may use your arms.

You may be the arms of God, the hand of God, the Word of God and we gotta have a different attitude! We are called to join Him, empowered by the Holy Spirit and inspired by God, and if we do, there will be an immense harvest and a huge difference! Stories will be changed, if we just believe! -Dr. Drew Shofner

We'll never be free until we are free of ourselves!

free of ourselves

A simple reminder that I want to offer you is this: God has a plan and a will for your life! You see, our way is death walking, but Jesus' way is coming into life evermore! When Jesus asks us to lose our life He's inviting us to be free, because we'll never be free until we are free of ourselves!
In Mathew 16:25 Jesus said, "For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it." This is the call of Christ, beyond religion, beyond American "church-ianity," the call of Christ is life for life. You die so that you can live! You give up so that you can gain! You lose so that you can win; it's an all-in call!
You literally have to give up what you want, to receive what God gives! You literally have to learn to say no to yourself, in order to say yes to God! You have to trade your short life for an eternal one that begins now but never ever ends!
You're going to have to give up the short term gains of being a liar, to be someone who lives the truth! You're going to have to give up the shallow seeking of human approval, to live under the approval of God. God honestly expects you to give up your life! In baptism we symbolize, that we are buried with Christ in baptism. Jesus was crucified and then He rose again, but there could be no resurrection without a crucifixion! You and I are called to be crucified in the details of daily life and it's a serious call!
Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand." John 10:27-28
So what Jesus is saying is that I want you to give up a life of a few short years, to let me give you a life that is everlasting! A life that is full of love and of joy. A life that will make sense of things in eternity because the life we are being given never ends. It goes on in grace and increasing joy and it goes on into so much more than we give up! Live Loved. Live Free. Live Purpose! -Dr. Drew Shofner

Enter through the narrow gate.

enter through the narrow gate

Beyond religion, there is an encounter with a real and living being who is the son of God that confronts each one of us with this call to leave our old life behind and to enter into His life! Today I'm asking you to leave behind the denial of brokenness and perhaps the fear of non-commitment. This is beyond religion, its beyond church, its beyond Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian or anything else; this is all about the purpose of Jesus' life!

Jesus said something very scary in Matthew 7:13-14, and as your Shepard, I am not only obligated to share this with you, but I am praying that you and I would all wake up and hear the seriousness of this warning. If on 9/10, before 9/11, if we could have had the plans of what was going to happen, things would have been very very different!

Jesus today, is telling us a reality of an impending catastrophe so that each one of us can avoid it. He said, "Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction…" Now, again, this is Jesus Christ speaking, He is telling us that destruction is imminent and that most people are going to experience it. "But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life and only a few find it."

Now this is not what Jesus wants to happen, it is what will happen if we don't listen to what He has to say. If we listen to what He has to say, then we can avoid it. Its like when Jonah was preaching to Nineveh, (Jonah 3) he just walked through this city and he said "Forty days and the city will parish!" Well, why would God send Jonah to say that? So that it wouldn't parish; and it didn't! In the same way, Jesus has sent His Word to our hearts and lives so that we can avoid the destruction that is coming in eternity.

You see, receiving Jesus is the starting line of life! It doesn't start when you graduate from high school, it doesn't start when you get married, it doesn't start when you get your first pay check or promotion or more money. The starting line of life is when you make the choice to give up your life and to receive Jesus Christ as your own personal Lord and Savior.
It can't be religion, it can't be you in charge, it can't be arrogance or pride, it has to be change! It has to be God literally coming to live inside of us, and rearranging our priorities. It has to be God literally plugging leaks in our heart, and filling us up with Himself! If we want to be saved and have eternal life, then we have to start following Jesus into a changed life! -Dr. Drew Shofner
