We all have eyes, but do we really see eachother?

W all have eyes

When you see people, what do you really see? Maybe a better question to start with is, do you really see people? I mean, do you really see the people in your family? Do you hear them when they talk to you or do you kind of have your own mind made up so that you don't really need to listen to them, and why even bother to engage in a real conversation or to find out what they feel because you already know you're right?

When you look around into the faces of people, do you see people who are other than you in terms of the pigment of their skin? Does that make a difference? Do you see people as hispanic? As African American? Do you see people as white? Or do you just see people made in the image of God? (Genesis 1:27)

Do you see people and feel fear because you're afraid of them and afraid they might find out what you really are, and if they knew you, they would reject you? Is that your assumption? When you see people, are they objects of lust that are there for the gratification of your imagination or your desires? When you see people are they tools that you use to get what you want? When you see people do you judge them and sum up who they are and evaluate their worth and label them? When you look in the face of people what do you really see?

Father save us from religion, save us from a life lived so ordinary here on planet earth, that nobody sees Jesus through us or feels the breath of Heaven or catches the scent of your love. God, save us from a life that is self centered and serving self interest. God, I ask in Jesus' name that in the short time that we have here on planet earth, that you would wake us up and stir our hearts to long for something more than most of us are currently pursuing in our lives. God, unleash us into the world to be your hands and feet to love well, live Jesus and believe big in a way that helps people see your face. Father, in Jesus' name, save us! -Dr. Drew Shofner

What good is it to gain the whole world and forfeit our soul?

Gain the world

We began years ago as a church of a couple hundred and we said, no, there are more sons and daughters of God that need to be loved! There are other people who don't yet know that Jesus died for them; we can't stay here!

I was a nobody growing up in the military but somebody noticed a nobody and somebody began to share the story of Jesus with a nobody because they dared to believe that my life mattered. Well, here's the deal, there are no nobody's! Everybody out there is somebody for whom Jesus died and until every man and woman, boy and girl in our region has a growing personal relationship with Jesus, our work isn't finished!

If you were raised up, conscience and alive this morning, then today there is work to do! Today there is a cross to carry. Today there is the story of Jesus to tell and you can't tell the story of Jesus without a cross! In Matthew 16:25-26, with His disciples, Jesus said it's not just me you're going to watch go to a cross. I'm calling you to carry your cross and to live denying everything that you have imagined would fulfill you and make you successful here on planet earth! You've got to die to it all, because if you want to save your life, you're going to lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it! What good will it be for a man if he were to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

Your heart is not set on what everybody else’s heart is set on. Everybody else’s heart is set on getting the world but Jesus says I have given you My Kingdom, I have given you eternity! I have given you the wealth of Heaven itself! You are free, not to be bound and in love with ‘stuff’ so don’t be owned by anything except for me!

You guys, there is greatness inside of you! If you are a believer in Jesus Christ; there is the Spirit of God inside of you! You have to make a decision in your life, whether you are going to live for what you can scratch out of the dust here on planet earth, or whether you are going to live your life with a longer range scope, with your eye on eternity. You have to decide that what matters in this race is not the first mile or the second; it's the finish line, and in Christ I choose to finish well! -Dr. Drew Shofner

Church is who we are not where we go.

church is who we are not where we go

I want to remind you that the church is not a building that human beings build; it is the living body of Christ! It is comprised of people who are willing to die to themselves and to be raised to new life and to live as an expression of the redeeming love and grace of Jesus on planet earth!

We are not a group of people that are here for ourselves. We are here as people who are brought into the life of Christ to be sent out on the road. Jesus never made a disciple by taking someone into a classroom! We are here by the call of God, to be changed by God, then to be sent by God as broken people to bump into other broken people and tell the story of Jesus; that's why we're here. Matthew 4:19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

The church is about people, it's about pain, it's about passion, it's about life; and every life created matters to God! The body of Christ isn't qualified people, the body of Christ is every believer who is willing to say yes to Jesus and is willing to do their part to change the world! -Dr. Drew Shofner
